Signifying “mutual respect and affection,” a 4.5 carat platinum and pave diamond brooch in the shape of the official polar bear logo of Canada’s Northwest Territories was given to Kate by the regional government on July 5. It was coupled with a set of 2.48 carat cufflinks for William in the same design.
Made by jeweler Harry Winston, the presents took 250 hours to make and are comprised of 692 diamonds – 302 for her and 390 for him – that were mined in the Northwest Territories at the Diavik Diamond.
The design of the cufflinks and brooch reflected the native bead-work and craftsmanship of the local area, Robert Gannicott chairman of the jewelry firm, said.
